Reading:

We are so impressed with the students’ analysis of two very big documents:  Emancipation Proclamation & Gettysburg Address.  Ask your child about the main idea of these documents.  We will be working our way into understanding the relationships (connections) between these.

Writing:

Students are working hard to finish drafting their 5 paragraph opinion essay.  We are having a ball reading these opinions.  Ask your child what he/she is writing about.  It may be about Anakin Skywalker, Diary of  a Wimpy Kid, Harry Potter, Divergent factions, or an idea they created on their own.

Social Studies:

The Civil War has ended.  Now the United States is attempting to heal & rebuild (both buildings and trust in each other).  We have entered the Reconstruction era for America.
