Reading and Writing This Week

Reading

We’ve been as busy as bees this week learning about figurative language.  Oh, the joy of similes, metaphors, personification, & hyperboles.  We’ve watched cartoons with examples, listened to songs, dissected poems, and analyzed books for their uses of this colorful language.  Feel free to check out some links on the reading resources page link.  FYI- On Friday the 22nd, we will introduce a figurative language project (to be done at HOME)  that will be due on Friday, February 5, 2016.  The rubric is linked below.

Figurative Language Project  (This rubric has been updated from it’s original post.  There IS a bonus portion to this assignment worth 3 extra points.  Check out the attached rubric for this.)

Writing

The kids LOVE to tell stories!  Now’s their chance to learn the tools to help develop their stories.  For the next 2 weeks, the students will be learning the elements (tools) for creating a narrative piece of writing.  Its purpose is to tell a story in an organized, engaging way.  The students have learned how to bring characters to life, how to incorporate flashbacks, & the use of imagery to spice up their writing.
